The Youth Hub at 109 Salisbury Street

Beattie Air is proud to highlight our recently completed commercial project – The Youth Hub at 109 Salisbury Street, New Zealand’s first purpose-built facility of its kind, dedicated to supporting Christchurch’s young people. This innovative space integrates supported housing, health and social services, and recreational areas to improve and maintain youth mental health.

Completed in late 2024, the project was expertly managed by our Senior Project Manager, Dan. The design was a collaborative effort between Beattie Air (heating and cooling) and Powell Fenwick Consultants (ventilation for G4 compliance), utilizing high-performance Mitsubishi HVRF systems to deliver efficient and adaptable heating and cooling solutions throughout the facility.

Commissioned by Naylor Love, who served as both the main builder and our client, this was one of our standout design-build, value-engineered projects, valued at over $1.3 million, where we successfully achieved over $250,000 in cost savings through strategic engineering and planning. Despite a delayed start imposed by the main contractor, our team navigated significant challenges, including:

• A complex floor plan and structural beam layouts
• Tight overhead clearances requiring precision installation
• Coordination across multiple trades to meet project deadlines

The completion of Stage One includes a wrap-around youth services building, an outdoor activities courtyard, and a supported housing wing for 22 young people. Looking ahead, the Youth Hub will expand further, with an Activities and Events Centre planned for 2025 and additional communal spaces in future stages.

We are also pleased to have secured the ongoing maintenance contract for the building, ensuring the long-term efficiency and performance of its heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.
