Dolomite Point Visitor Centre, Punakaiki

Beattie Air is proud to have played a role in the Dolomite Point Visitor Centre, a stunning new addition to the West Coast’s landscape. Delivered in collaboration with Naylor Love, this project is a state-of-the-art visitor hub, providing a welcoming space for both locals and tourists exploring the iconic Punakaiki Pancake Rocks.

  • Client: Naylor Love
  • Location: Punakaiki, West Coast
  • Duration: 2023–2024
  • Technology Used: Daikin VRV system

Key Features & Achievements

  • Architecturally striking design, seamlessly blending into the natural surroundings
  • Energy-efficient VRV system ensuring comfort while maintaining sustainability goals
  • Opened on 06 May 2024, with a Ngāti Waewae blessing ceremony marking its completion
  • Now operating as a shared space for Ngāti Waewae and DOC (Department of Conservation), welcoming visitors from across the country

A Name with Meaning

The centre is located in Punakaiki, but Ngāti Waewae holds that the original name is Punangairi—a name reflecting the area’s natural beauty:

  • Puna = spring or pool
  • Ngairi (or ‘kairi’ in Ngāi Tahu dialect) = stormy waters

This visitor centre is not only a gateway to the stunning coastal landscape but also a celebration of Māori history, cultural identity, and environmental preservation.

A remarkable project, beautifully executed – well done to all involved!
